2008-2009 Dulles International Airport (IAD) TVA update
NASS completed a comprehensive review of the Threat and Vulnerability Assessment
performed at both Washington Area Airports from 2002. NASS reviewed all documents and assessments
at both airports and provided a comprehensive report addressing all issues
raised in the each report. MWAA operates both airports and also a centralized dispatch center that serves all MWAA facilities.
NASS addressed the following items within the “Combined Report”:
- Centralized Communication Control and Dispatch Center (3C)
- Radio and Wireless Communications
- Airport Security Plans, 100% Employee Screening, Centralized Delivery Checkpoints
- Video and Universal Badging Systems (badges operate at both airport locations and
MWAA) - Threat (Risk) Based Blast Observations and Risk Analysis
- CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Detection and Perimeter Detection
NASS addressed the following items within the “DCA Report”:
- Main Terminal, Hangar Area, GA, Fuel Farm, Catering and Cargo Security reviews
- Utility Systems Including Natural Gas, Water, Electric, Telecom and HVAC systems
- Metro System Stations and Walkways (public “subway” system)
- Perimeter Security – Intrusion Detection Systems (Video Analytics and Microwave)
- Review of Capital construction programs
- CCTV, Access Control, and Perimeter Detection
- Digital CCTV recording
NASS addressed the following items within the “IAD Report”:
- International Terminal, CBP and International cargo
- 18.3 mile access corridor (MWAA patrolled and controlled 4-lane divided corridor and
4-lane toll road) - Microwave Runway and Tarmac Intrusion Detection System(s)
- Mobile Lounge and Plane Mates (remote passenger delivery vehicles)
- Staffing Requirements
- CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Detection and Perimeter Detection
- Digital CCTV recording
